Jorge Castillo-Mateo

Bio: Jorge Castillo-Mateo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistical Methods and a member of the Institute of Mathematics and Applications (IUMA) at the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR), Spain. His work integrates advanced Bayesian modeling and computing, spatio-temporal analysis, and, more recently, causal inference to address complex challenges in environmental and health sciences. His research has earned honors, including the 2023-2024 Extraordinary Doctorate Award at UNIZAR, a nomination for the 2025 Savage Award, and the 2025 SEIO-FBBVA Award for best applied contribution for his work on record-breaking events. His research stems from international collaborations and visits to institutions such as Duke University, Sapienza University of Rome, and NC State University. Building on these experiences, his current research focuses on developing statistical methods for local climate projections, and explainable methods for medical applications.
